Large property of 60 hectares of vines located in Macau-en-Médoc, at the entrance of the Médoc region, at 21 km North West of Bordeaux at just a couple of kilometres of the Margaux appellation.The average age of the vines is 25 years. The soil is sandy with lots of gravels, quite sizeable in some places.
Grapes are: 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc
The harvest is machine made. The winemaking is traditional in stainless steel vats, temperature controlled. The skin contact is 20 to 25 days according to the quality of the vintage. Then wines are aged in oak barrels during 12 months.
The 2001 vintage is a medium vintage in Bordeaux. French growers used to say : June makes the quantity, August the style, September the quality. In 2001 the summer was quite good and promising but rain during the harvest partly compromised what should have been a great vintage. However some growers did a good job and some very good wines were produced in 2001.
