The McMullen family who operate Borambola Wines for over eighteen years are Basil McMullen, Anne McMullen and Tim McMullen. Basil and his local team carefully tend to the vines and manages the cellar door. Anne takes care of the events and administration and Tim is responsible for the sales and marketing, domestically and internationally.
Borambola Wines most outstanding feature is the commitment of the family to produce and supply excellent wine. As a team, the McMullen family is committed to building a successful business, increasing awareness of the quality wines produced in the Gundagai region and organising events to attract locals and tourists to the region. Individually, members of the family are representatives on local and regional wine and tourism committees that assist in promotion and expansion of the region.
Winemaker
Borambola Wines are made under the passionate supervision of Richard Parker. Richard studied Oenology at Charles Sturt University and he refined his wine making skills in many wine regions of Australia and overseas.
His talent as a winemaker has been widely recognized in his achievements with well over 80 national and international medals showing his wines, not to mention the many more trophies and medals won by wineries who have their wine made by Richard.
From his state of the art winery Richards’ individual and perfectionist winemaking style is evident across the wines he handcrafts. He prides himself on his ability to combine traditional wine-making skills with the most up-to-date equipment and methods. Richard’s belief that careful management of all the steps from vineyard to barrel to bottle is critical. These factors ensure the wines he makes are always excellent quality, allowing the grapes and the various regions to express themselves as they should.
Vineyard Management
In 1997 he moved to Orange to take up a position with the newly established Little Boomey (now known as Cumulus) which was to become the largest vineyard in the Orange District and one of the top 20 vineyards in Australia. In 2001 he was appointed the chief viticulturist for the company a position he held until 2004 when he set up his consulting business.
Tim commenced his career in viticulture in 1991 in the Marlborough region of New Zealand working for a Cloudy Bay grower.
Following studies in viticulture he moved to the Frankland River region of Western Australia in the mid 1990s where he was the employed by Houghtons. Then on to Brokenwood Wines in the NSW Hunter Valley.
