Most of the imported wine doesn't enjoy high notability. At present, no imported wine brand enjoys a high notability in China.
Most Chinese consumers are not able to tell the quality of imported wine. It has a disadvantageous effect on those wine of well-known brand and the selling of high-quality wine, but it is advantageous to the foreign wine producers of medium or small scale and the wine brand of medium price and quality, especially those brands haven't enter China's market.
A few foreign wine factories have their working body or sales agencies, sales network and regional sales agencies in China. They have regular market promotion activities, take part in large-scale wine exhibition in China constantly and have stable sales volume in China.
However, most of the foreign wine factories have no idea about China's market and even haven't been to China and no mention to investigate the market. They don't have long-term investigation consideration on China's market. Some even have no interest in it. They just occasionally export their wine to China through China's wine-imported agencies speculatively and pursue market promotion only supported by slender money.
The Management Methods on Imported Wine Market of Chinese Government (extract)
1. Imported food sanitation and quality supervision and inspection offices at the import port are responsible for supervising the imported wine in accordance with law. For those qualified wine, attach the "sanitary supervision and inspection mark for imported food", issue sanitary certificates (original and copy). And import of those unqualifed wines is disallowed.
Importing units shall provide the certificate of origin and sanitary certificate for imported wine from the exporting countries or regions.
Chinese labels shall be attached to the imported wines according to the "General Standard for the Labeling of Foods" and relevant stipulations.
2. The custom levies duty and release if in order after examination of the import license and "released" bill issued by the imported food sanitary supervision and inspection institutions at the port.
3. Enterprise engaging in the wholesale of imported wine, shall meet the following conditions:
(1) Possesses eligible registered capital, operation premises and warehousing facilities.
(2) Has complete managerial system of a wholesale enterprise.
(3) Owns professional personnel familiar with knowledge about imported wine.
(4) Stable wholesale sales net
(5) Have means to identify the "sanitary supervision and inspection mark for imported food".
(6) Hygienic license approved and issued by health administration.
(7) Other conditions stipulated by state law and regulations
Only after acquiring "Special Imported Wine Wholesale License" can enterprises engage in wholesale business of imported wine.
4. The enterprise engaging in imported wine sales shall abide by the following stipulations:
Hold the import license, customs tax return and sanitary certificate (original and copy), the distributed import wines must be attached "Chinese labels"and "sanitary supervision and inspection mark for imported food".
5. The import barreled wine with original packaging, and semi-finished wine products entering into our country after examination, and through such processing works as subpackage in bottles, blend, filtration, storage, etc. that are sold in our country as foreign brands, are managed as imported wines.
