In Australia, grape growing and wine producing dated back to the arrival of European settlers/ migrants over 200 years ago. However, it probably is true to say that it is only in recent decades that the rest of the world has recognised the quality of Australian wines.

The Australian wine sector has established its own path and grown into the position of one of the world’s -leading world producers. Australia’s wine makers have created a $4 billion wine industry today. Australia has over 200 years history but based on the wine making volume, Australia is the fourth largest wine exporter of the world, after traditional wine producing countries – France, Italy and Spain. Australian red, white and sparkling wines are very popular in UK, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Japan, China and Hong Kong, the demands for Australian red and white have been growing rapidly in the last five years.

The Australian wine industry exports its wines to more than 100 countries. Australian wines’ international markets have grown rapidly due to the high quality, fruity, large quantity and reasonable price. Australian wines are well respected in China due to the excellent wine making technology which is supported by good quality soil, the climate and its clean water.

In Australia, there are 4080 registered wineries from 60 wine producing areas. The majority of wine producing areas in Australia are in the cooler south east areas of the country although there are vineyards in the desert of the Northern Territory around Alice Springs. Major vineyards include:

Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and Coonawarra in South Australia
Swan Hill, Yarra Valley and Rutherglen in Victoria
Hunter Valley, Mudgee and Riverina in New South Wales
South Burnett, Stanthorpe and Margaret River in Western Australia

澳大利亚有4080个注册的酒庄，60个著名葡萄酒区，大多数葡萄园在较冷的东南边农村，但是北领地爱丽丝泉的沙漠地区也有葡萄园。主要葡萄园如下：
